The holidays are here, it is time to head to grandmother’s house. Don’t hit the road without having your vehicle inspected before you go. You do not want to run into trouble when you’re out on the highway. In addition, you do not need your family angry with you because the car broke down. Here are some tips to make your holiday road trip fun, stress-free, and enjoyable.
Check Your Route
Before you leave, aside from calling us to schedule a pre-trip inspection, check your route to make sure everything is a-okay. You want to make sure that there isn’t any road construction on the highways you plan to travel. You also want to check the weather to make sure you won’t be heading into any serious storms. Also, find an alternate route in case you have to leave the main route for some reason.
Plan for Stops
It is also important to plan for stops along the way. Do not get in the car and drive until you get there. This is only a good idea if the trip is a couple of hours. If you are going to be on the road all day or for several days, make sure to plan stops throughout the day for everyone to get out of the car to stretch and go to the bathroom. Check to see if there are any fun roadside attractions you can check out.
Drink Water
Because you are making bathroom stops, drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Coffee, tea, sodas, and juices can actually make you tired. The caffeine from the coffee and tea will give you a temporary high but will wear you out eventually. The same thing happens with the sugar from the sodas and juices. Water is the only thing that provides you with continual hydration to keep you alert.
Eat Healthy
Another thing that can make you sleepy behind the wheel is junk food, so plan to eat healthy throughout the trip. Eat healthy snacks that are high in protein and low in fat. Avoid chips and sugary candies. Stop for meals instead of eating in the car. This gives you a chance to enjoy the meal.
Call Us First
Finally, call us first. Schedule an appointment to bring your vehicle to our shop so we can inspect the automobile to make sure it is ready for the trip. This will ensure you don’t get stranded on the road.
