Four Things that Can Kill Your Tires

Tire failure is never a fun experience, and for the most part it can be avoided. The best thing that you can do is to learn more about what causes big problems for your car’s tires so that you can avoid those issues. Here’s some information from Gulf Breeze Automotive to help you.

Hazards in the Road

A great many of the hazards you might encounter in the road are ones that you just can’t avoid. Some you never even know are there, like a nail. But bigger hazards, like potholes and larger items, are ones that can really do a number on your tires if you run over them. That’s why it’s so important to avoid what you can avoid, whenever possible. It helps to protect your tires.

Overloading Your Car Too Often

Your car and your tires have weight limits on what they can reasonably hold on a consistent basis. If you overload your car, whether by towing something or simply because you carry a lot of extra stuff around in your car, that can eventually damage your tires. If you do need to haul a lot of heavy things, try to buy tires that have a higher weight threshold.

Speeding and Driving Aggressively

Driving aggressively, like darting around slower drivers and taking corners too fast, and just speeding in general take a big toll on your car’s tires. Your tires end up getting chewed away faster than they would if you drove more sedately on a consistent basis. If you’re noticing that your tires are wearing faster than you expected, you might want to ease up on your driving habits.

Improper Inflation

The biggest enemy for your car’s tires is improper inflation. If your tires have too much air or too little, that affects their ability to do their job. Never keep more air in your tires than they’re rated to hold because that can weaken the tires and can cause problems with the valve stems. Underinflation is just as bad, though, and is more likely to lead to a blowout with your tires.
